The story in 60 seconds
Rent-to-own is how a large part of the country furnishes a home, replaces a washer, or puts tires on the car when the money comes weekly and the need comes now. More than 4,600 stores across all 50 states do this business, from national chains to single-store dealers, plus the virtual rent-to-own companies that now sit at the checkout of thousands of retailers. Until VRTO, there was no single place to see them all.
VRTO is that place. Every store is listed with the company named, the address matched to its Google Business Profile where we can, the hours, the public rating, and the week we last refreshed it. Our guides explain the agreement in plain language and tell a shopper what to ask before signing. The method behind every listing is published, and the counts are files anyone can download.
Two rules hold everything up. Listing a store is free. Rankings are never for sale.
VRTO Research publishes original data about the industry: where the stores are, what shoppers plan to buy with rent-to-own this Christmas, and, as the work clears review, how satisfied rent-to-own customers are today. The point is to be the place a reporter, a regulator, a shopper, or an AI assistant can go for a number that has a date and a method on it.
