Why VRTO Exists

Millions of Americans use rent-to-own every year, but finding the right store shouldn't be this hard. Search for "rent-to-own stores near me" and you get a wall of ads, outdated listings, and individual store websites that each promote only themselves. Hours are wrong. Locations are missing. There is no way to compare options side by side.

VRTO (Virtual Rent To Own) was built to fix that. We organize rent-to-own store listings across the United States into a searchable directory by state, city, category, and company, so consumers can find what they need in minutes, not hours.

Built from Inside the Industry

Active member of all major rent-to-own industry organizations

VRTO is the national rent-to-own store directory and consumer guide. Our work is informed by active memberships in APRO (the Association of Progressive Rental Organizations), TRIB Group, and Nationwide Marketing Group.

That industry involvement shapes everything about VRTO, from how we structure store data to the educational content we publish. We understand how rent-to-own works at every level because we are part of the industry, and that knowledge is what makes this directory comprehensive and accurate in ways that a generic listing site never could be.

What Makes VRTO Different

VRTO is more than a list of stores. It is a comprehensive platform built from inside the rent-to-own industry with tools and data no other directory offers.

Comprehensive Coverage

4,627 stores from 155 companies across all 50 states and 2,280 cities. National chains like Aaron's and Rent-A-Center alongside independent operators, in one searchable directory.

Consumer Guides

Plain-English guides explain costs, agreements, early purchase options, and consumer rights so shoppers can prepare before contacting a store.

RTO Cost Calculator

RTO costs more than retail, and we say so plainly. Our payment calculator shows consumers exactly what they will pay over the life of an agreement, including the early purchase option (EPO) that can save 40–60% of total payments if exercised within 90 days.

Our Mission

VRTO (Virtual Rent To Own) exists to make finding rental products online as easy as searching for anything else. Every consumer deserves a single place to find every rent-to-own store near them, compare options, and make an informed decision.

Our mission has three components:

  • Find. VRTO is a directory first. The primary value is connecting consumers with nearby rent-to-own stores across all major companies and independent operators.
  • Understand. VRTO educates. Consumers leave knowing more about rent-to-own than when they arrived, including the true costs and their consumer rights.
  • Compare. VRTO makes it easy to see all your local options in one place, so you can choose the store that fits your needs.

Editorial Standards & Data Integrity

Every piece of information on VRTO is held to strict editorial standards. Our content is created and reviewed by RTO industry professionals with hands-on experience in rent-to-own operations.

Store Data

Store listings use publicly available business information and retailer-supplied data when available. Listing details can change, so shoppers should review the listing date when available and confirm important information directly with the retailer.

Content Review

Educational articles, guides, and blog posts are reviewed by our editorial team: industry professionals with direct operational experience in the rent-to-own space.

Comprehensive Coverage

VRTO lists 155 rent-to-own companies (Aaron's, Rent-A-Center, Buddy's Home Furnishings, and independent stores), totaling 4,627 locations across all 50 states and 2,280 cities.

Transparency

We are honest about rent-to-own costs. RTO is more expensive than retail purchasing, and we say so plainly. Our payment calculator shows consumers exactly what they will pay over the life of an agreement. Transparency earns trust.

What VRTO Is, and What It Is Not

VRTO is a directory and educational resource built by the rent-to-own industry. Here is what that means.

What VRTO Is

  • The nationwide rent-to-own store directory
  • An educational resource about how RTO works
  • Built with rent-to-own industry knowledge
  • A free tool for comparing stores by location

What VRTO Is Not

  • Not a rent-to-own store or marketplace
  • Not a payment processor or lender
  • Does not sell, lease, or rent products
  • Does not handle customer service for listed stores

Brand names and trademarks mentioned on this site are the property of their respective owners and are used solely for identification purposes. We do not process payments, manage rental agreements, or handle customer service for any store listed in our directory.

How We Collect & Verify Store Data

VRTO organizes store data from publicly available business sources and retailer-supplied data when available, then organizes it by state, city, category, and company so consumers can find exactly what they are looking for. Our data methodology has four layers:

1

Automated Ingestion

Available store names, addresses, phone numbers, operating hours, and categories are collected from public business sources and retailer-supplied data when available.

2

Validation & Normalization

Every sync runs automated validation: address formatting, valid phone numbers, reasonable operating hours, and geocoding verification. Invalid or suspicious data is flagged for manual review before publication.

3

Continuous Monitoring

Every listing displays a "Last updated" timestamp. Store closures, relocations, and data changes are detected automatically and reviewed by our team. Consumers can also report corrections through our contact page.

Data accuracy note: Store details such as hours of operation, addresses, and product availability can change at any time without notice. We strongly recommend contacting a store directly to verify information before visiting. Learn more about our process on our data methodology page.

Contact Us

If you have questions, feedback, corrections to store information, or press inquiries, we would like to hear from you. Please reach out through our contact page, and we will respond as promptly as possible.
