Rent-A-Center

In May 2024, I faced harassment from Rent-A-Center at 1635 South Prairie Ave, Pueblo, CO, even though I am not the account holder; my husband is. While we’ve struggled financially this year, I was consistently paying $160 every two weeks. Despite being just a week behind in May, Rent-A-Center’s tactics became aggressive. The first incident involved an employee banging loudly on my door, making the walls shake. When I spoke through the door, he responded loudly and rudely, embarrassing me in front of neighbors. I immediately called the store to explain, and they confirmed we were behind but said collections would continue. Due to poor internal communication, agreements on payment dates were often disregarded, leading to continual harassment. Rent-A-Center’s collection practices escalated that month. Despite my request to avoid home visits due to PTSD from prior law enforcement work, another employee aggressively banged on my doors and windows. I called the store, explaining that my husband would pay on payday, yet the harassment continued, causing further stress. Later, my husband and I spoke with Brandon at the store. My husband reiterated that he would pay on payday, explaining that he works a high-risk job, often 275 feet in the air, and cannot always answer calls. He requested they stop visiting our home as I am alone during the day. However, Reggie, another employee, stated that they would continue coming as long as we had Rent-A-Center’s merchandise. After a heated exchange with Reggie, an agreement was reached that they would only contact my husband and not me. However, the harassment persisted. I filed a report with Rent-A-Center customer service (Report #2187643) after explaining our experience to Oscar. Despite requesting to speak with the district manager, I received no response. We continued payments but were six days late in October. On Friday, October 25, 2024, I received a call from another rude Rent-A-Center representative who claimed he was outside my house. I informed him I was across the street at a pawn shop paying bills. Despite my explanation, the representative threatened to “camp out” at my door until I returned. The shop owner, Chris, overheard and recorded this visit on his security cameras. I called Reggie again, who denied our prior agreement and insisted they would continue visits. Although they already had my husband’s number on file, I continued to receive calls whenever my husband couldn’t answer. I filed another report with customer service (Report #218779) and spoke to Andy, but I doubt there will be follow-up. I finally filed a harassment report with the Pueblo Police Department and spoke to Officer King, who confirmed that future visits would be treated as trespassing and advised me to call the police if needed. She also instructed Rent-A-Center to stop calling me. This complaint is being submitted to Rent-A-Center, Google Reviews, the Better Business Bureau, and the Attorney General’s office. The repeated home visits, disruptive collection calls, and unprofessional conduct from Rent-A-Center are unacceptable.
