Inside Rent-A-Center

What you can rent here

Rent-A-Center is a national rent-to-own chain with 1,948 stores across all 50 states, reaching communities from Lawrence, Massachusetts and Kissimmee, Florida to Harlingen, Texas and Booneville, Mississippi. Launched in 1973 in Wichita, Kansas, it was the first national chain to scale the rent-to-own model, building standardized showrooms stocked with new, name-brand merchandise. Stores carry furniture, appliances, electronics, computers, mattresses, gaming, and smartphones on flexible weekly or monthly lease agreements, and like most rent-to-own stores they typically do not require a traditional credit check. Rent-A-Center holds a 4-star Google rating across more than 152,000 reviews. Compare Rent-A-Center on VRTO alongside other rent-to-own stores near you, with hours, ratings, and what each carries.

I have been a customer here for a few years, I was recently given a two weeks free deal, and I only received one week for free because only one week lined up in my pay cycle. The manager chose to not be flexible and not help me keep my couch.

Left a bunch of flyers all over my neighborhood. Didn't even bother to tape them up, which means they actually just littered trash all over my neighborhood. Awful for the environment, awful for the community.

The store manager was rude and unprofessional to not only the customers but the employees as well, the only reason I would rent from there is if you fire her and the District Manager.

FORMAL COMPLAINT – HARASSMENT & MISCONDUCT BY STORE MANAGER (RENT-A-CENTER) To whom it may concern, I am submitting this formal complaint regarding Yajaira, the manager at your Rent-A-Center location. I have been a loyal customer for years, having purchased two refrigerators and other appliances from your company. Despite my long history of responsible payments and positive interactions with other staff, I have consistently had negative, stressful, and unprofessional experiences with this manager. Recently, I was six days late on a payment due to circumstances that are both serious and medically relevant: • I am currently pregnant and considered a high-risk pregnancy, which required me to leave a physically demanding job for the safety of my health. • I am still grieving the recent passing of my fiancé, leaving me to handle my pregnancy and financial responsibilities alone. I had already contacted the store and arranged to make my payment on December 10th. Despite this agreement, I received a message from the store phone stating that the item would be picked up the next day. This caused unnecessary distress that directly affects my health. What occurred next was beyond unprofessional: 1. She contacted me from her personal phone. This is completely inappropriate for a manager. It made me feel pressured, intimidated, and harassed. I informed her that contacting me personally and threatening repossession was not acceptable, and I clarified that if she came to my home again, I would be contacting the authorities. 2. She showed up to my home after being told not to. She arrived not in uniform, not in a Rent-A-Center vehicle, and not acting in any official capacity. She knocked and banged aggressively on my door, even after I explicitly told her not to come to my property. I have video evidence of her arriving at my home and continuing to knock in a harassing manner. As a pregnant woman already under medical stress, her actions caused me to feel unsafe, threatened, and intimidated, leading me to contact 911 because I feared for my safety. 3. Her conduct violates multiple professional and legal expectations: • Harassment of a customer • Unapproved use of personal contact to conduct business • Showing up to a customer’s residence after being told not to • Attempted intimidation by referencing lawyers and pressure tactics • Unprofessional communication outside of official business channels This behavior is unacceptable in any business setting, especially toward a customer with a documented high-risk pregnancy who had already communicated intent to pay. I have always been respectful and responsible with my payments, and I do not deserve to be treated with hostility, intimidation, or threats. I also want to note that Bernadette has always treated me with compassion and professionalism — a sharp contrast to the manager. I have even witnessed Yajaira speaking disrespectfully to her employees, and I had to step in and remind her that her behavior was inappropriate. This entire situation has caused me severe emotional distress, fear, and physical stress that is dangerous for my pregnancy. REQUEST FOR CORPORATE CONTACT INFORMATION I am requesting the direct contact information for your corporate office or district leadership, so I can immediately provide the video evidence, screenshots, and photographs documenting the harassment and inappropriate conduct that occurred. This matter needs to be formally escalated and reviewed at a corporate level to ensure accountability and prevent this from happening to any other customer. I expect a timely response regarding the actions that will be taken. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.
