VRTO (Virtual Rent To Own) is the national rent-to-own store directory and consumer guide.

We maintain a nationwide directory of more than 4,600 rent to own store locations, along with plain-English buying guides and original market data. This role works directly on that.

The role

We are looking for a talented writer to create the buying guides our readers rely on. You enjoy taking a complicated topic and turning it into a clear, engaging story: how rent to own works, what a lease really costs, and how to choose with confidence. You will research each topic, write the guide, and polish it with our editorial feedback. The role begins with a short paid trial (2 to 3 guides, paid per guide) and grows into an ongoing part-time schedule of 15 to 20 hours a week.

What you will do

• Write clear, engaging consumer guides about rent to own: provider comparisons, contract explanations, and cost breakdowns.
• Research each topic using reliable primary sources, and include a source list with every guide.
• Turn complex financial topics into plain-English stories that any reader can follow and act on.
• Collaborate through our editorial review: incorporate feedback and revise drafts until they are right.
• Help shape the content calendar as the guide library grows.

What we are looking for

• Proven experience writing long-form content, ideally on finance or consumer topics. Please include a link to a published piece you are proud of.
• A gift for clear communication: you write in plain English and know how to keep a reader engaged.
• A creative storyteller who still gets the details right: comfortable with research, sourcing, and fact-checking.
• Open to feedback and comfortable working through an editorial review process.
• Familiarity with the US consumer market. Rent-to-own knowledge is helpful but not required.
• Consistent availability of 15 to 20 hours per week, fully remote.

Compensation

$25 to $40 per hour, ongoing.
