February 2025, I purchased couches from Buddy’s. At the time of purchase, I was told that I would be able to upgrade my couches later if I chose to do so. July 2025, the Buddy’s store in Jacksonville, NC closed, and customer accounts were reassigned to other locations, including Wilmington, Greensboro, or Goldsboro. During this time, I attempted to upgrade my couches to a set of my choosing. I was initially told this would be possible, but later informed that they could not work with me due to my location in Jacksonville, NC. This resulted in ongoing issues and inconsistent information regarding my account, requiring repeated back-and-forth communication with the store. By October 2025, due to continued runaround and lack of clear communication, I returned the couches. I kept my coffee tables on the account and made the decision to return the couches because I was done dealing with the inconsistencies. I later reached out to get clarification on the remaining balance for my coffee tables and eventually spoke with the Wilmington store manager, Allen. I explained the entire situation, including the store closure, account transfer, and the conflicting information I had received. I made the valid point that if Buddy’s could come pick up furniture, they should also be able to deliver furniture. Allen stated that he wanted to help me get my couches and asked which set I wanted. He then proceeded to order the couches I selected on December 4, 2025.
I was told to periodically call and check on the status of the couches. Since this was close to the holidays, I did not initially express concern about delays. On either January 7th or 8th, I received a phone call from Allen stating that my couches had arrived. I drove to Wilmington on January 10th to see the furniture and complete the paperwork. At that time, I was informed that only part of my order had arrived and that the loveseat was missing. I was then told that my furniture would be delivered on Thursday, January 15th. On Wednesday, January 14th, I called to confirm delivery and to check if the missing piece had arrived. I was told that the remaining piece would arrive Thursday morning and would be loaded onto the truck, and that I would receive a call when the delivery truck was on the way. Based on this information, I made arrangements to be off work to be present for delivery. By approximately 1:30 PM on Thursday, January 15th, I had not received any call. I contacted Buddy’s and was told that no one had information about my delivery and that the person who could assist was at a doctor’s appointment and would call me back. Over two hours passed with no return call. I called again, was placed on hold for nearly 15 minutes, called back again, and was disconnected. When I finally reached someone, I was given excuse after excuse and informed that the truck had arrived but only contained bedroom furniture, not my living room furniture. When I raised concerns, I received a text message from management shifting blame to the manufacturer, questioning my actions, referencing the Better Business Bureau, stating that I needed to be patient or accept a refund, and asking me to apologize, instead of addressing the repeated service failures. After months of inconsistent information, broken commitments, and poor communication, I made the decision to cancel my entire order, return my coffee tables, and take my business elsewhere. While Allen was professional and kind to work with, the overall experience with Buddy’s has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. The lack of accountability, follow-through, and clear communication throughout this entire process has been unacceptable.
