As someone who works in customer service management, I’ve never experienced a situation where a manager was unwilling to truly listen to a customer’s concerns. Yesterday, I spoke with a very kind representative regarding an issue with my payment schedule being incorrect for my payment plan, which caused my account to become two weeks past due based on my pay cycle. During that conversation, we came to the mutual understanding that after the table was picked up on Monday and my final payment was made on Thursday, I would no longer be continuing the contract. Financially, it simply made more sense for us to purchase something more affordable outright rather than continue with bi-weekly payments. We scheduled the pickup for Monday between 1–3 PM, and KJ was extremely understanding throughout the process. Later that evening, I received a call from Crystal (the manager) attempting to resolve the account and keep the contract active. I respectfully explained that my partner and I had already made our decision to not move forward for our current finances, and she confirmed she saw the notes on my account acknowledging the agreement, and the call ended on an understanding note. Today, I received another follow-up call from a different representative who also confirmed the account status. Including Monday pickup and Thursday payment arrangement after reviewing the account notes. However, around 8:30 PM that same evening, a crew member unexpectedly showed up at my home attempting to pick up the table while I was getting ready for bed. What upset me most was not the pickup itself, but the lack of respect for the agreement already in place and the discomfort of having someone arrive at my home unannounced that late at night. When I called the store, Crystal explained that because the account was past due, their crew would continue attempting pickup without notice until payment was collected or the merchandise was returned. When I expressed that I was uncomfortable with someone showing up at my home that late in the evening and asked that they simply honor the scheduled Monday pickup, her response was, “I wish we didn’t have to work that late, but we continue on our routes until 9pm.”, which completely dismissed my concerns and the arrangement that had already been made. We went in circles a couple of times, until I realized she was not willing to listen. The call wrapped up in frustration, but ended on the understanding that they will continue to come by regardless of any set arrangements or requests. I’m only sharing this because I genuinely hope this feedback is taken constructively. Business policies are one thing, but customers are still people, and situations like this can be handled with more understanding and professionalism. Based on my experience, I would encourage others to carefully read reviews before renting from this location specifically, as I’ve heard much better experiences from other Rent-A-Center locations. This was our overall, first experience renting furniture in a pinch, and it does seem a bit predatory. So we will be sticking to Facebook Market place or Wayfair. For the kitchen table we rented during our first few months of our first home together, it brought a lot of warm memories with our family, and for that I’m thankful, including the original crew who delivered and installed.

My daughter rented merchandise from the Clayton store and they were horrible from day one. The first 2 times she made payments they said it was late or they hadn’t received when she actually paid it early. Payments were due on Saturday ($21). They were calling on Saturday and it wasn’t late yet. She kept the item for 8 months, 3 days late one time because of an emergency and they threatened to come pick it up. Then they changed the due dates and didn’t tell her. Finally got tired of them and their “no grace period” and harassing, crooked ways, and told them to come and get the merchandise. If you need to rent something, please go to Aaron’s. I don’t use “hate” often but I absolutely hate Rent-A-Center.

Wasn’t even a day late and they came knocking on the door . Payment was due on a Saturday 2/28 that same day a young man was at my door . Not sure if it’s new management ( I’ve worked with Greg in the past) but I willingly gave up my product of it’s going to be like that. If I didn’t make the payment end of day I’d understand . Btw this was my first payment and they were acting like that . That’s ridiculous.

Horrible. Paying bills is obviously something you have to do, so when falling on hard times I’ve always called this rent a center and they’ve worked with me. I’ve paid off 100% of my things from here. The past month due to rain I have not been working much last week I asked to pay my biweekly payment that Friday (same cycle) - first employee said that was fine. They called again Tuesday and I answered, explained I had spoke to an employee and that it would def be there. They said they remembered and told me it was ok. I got a call Thursday from a personal number (Crystal; the manager). I answered, tried to explain that I had spoke to someone prior. I had already had an interaction with her so I knew how she would react. She proceeded to tell me she needed an exact time for Friday. I get paid once off of work (construction) so I didn’t know what time exactly but that I would pay it. At that point it was upsetting, I’m trying to communicate that the payment WILL be done and I still get questioned expecting an answer when I have already explained. If she couldn’t wait until Friday then she could have picked up her stuff, instead she proceeded to call me off of fuquay rent a center on Friday again. I usually run around Fridays to have my payments by 11:59 but honestly it was whatever that week. If they need their stuff they are welcomed to come get it. I’ve never had this interaction with no one that has ever worked here but she did mention it was not her problem “other managers didn’t do their job” as if their job was harassing. If you can’t wait for my payment then come get your stuff. I’m curious to see how this will work without so many being in tough times but still making their payments.

The WORST rent a center out there!!! Have never been so harassed even though payments are made!!! Call DAILY!!! When told to pick their stuff up because they aren’t going to continue the calling daily they REFUSE to pick it up. Find a better managed rent a center that will take care of you!!!! Goldsboro rent a center is top notch!!!
