How It Works

Typically included with rent-to-own agreements:
Free delivery and setup, service and maintenance for the life of the agreement, the option to return items at any time without penalty, and an early purchase option (EPO) to buy the item outright before the lease ends. Rent-to-own is not a loan or credit purchase. Specific terms vary by store.

I have nothing bad to say about Rent-A-Center I have a nice bed from them I pay every week it's good quality service
First and foremost, I want to make it clear that I have no complaints about your employees. Every one of them I've encountered has been professional, respectful, and helpful. This message is not directed at them, but rather at the corporate leadership and ownership behind Rent-A-Center. What I take serious issue with is the excessive markup on your products. I understand that, as a business, you need to generate a profit — that’s the nature of retail. However, marking items up three to four times their actual retail value, and then renting them out repeatedly, borders on exploitation. It’s price gouging, plain and simple. This business model disproportionately targets low-income individuals and families — the very people who turn to Rent-A-Center because they can't afford to pay large sums up front. Let’s be honest: wealthy individuals aren’t walking into your stores to rent particle board furniture. Your entire customer base is made up of hardworking people doing the best they can with limited resources. And instead of offering them a fair opportunity, you trap them in a cycle of endless payments on overpriced, low-quality goods. Let me be even more direct — the products you’re offering are often cheaply made, pressed wood furniture and lower-end electronics, yet you charge premium prices for them. Then you rent them out again and again, raking in profit far beyond their actual value. That’s not helping people — that’s preying on them. And as if that weren’t enough, the tools you provide your employees to do their jobs are outdated and barely functional. For all the money you pull from working-class Americans, the least you could do is invest in better computer systems and improve your app and website. As it stands, your digital systems are some of the worst I’ve ever encountered — slow, glitchy, and unreliable. It’s so bad that your staff often has to double their workload just to complete a simple rental transaction. That’s not just unfair to customers — it’s unfair to your employees. While this may be “just business” to you, it’s one of the many reasons why people remain stuck in poverty. And whether or not you want to admit it, that has consequences. You may not care now, but eventually, we all answer for the way we treat others — especially those who trusted us when they had nowhere else to turn. So, let me be one of the few who says it plainly: Shame on you. I hope that when the time comes to face the other side, you’re prepared to explain how you made your fortune — not by helping people rise, but by keeping them down. Sincerely, Joshua Shirley
Jeff is a great sales manager to work with always goes above and beyond too help as much as he can, even taking part in delivering merchandise. Kevin,Keisha and Jeff are truly assets to Rent a Center Operations
On 11/ 16/ 23 I placed an order for a TV online from rent a center in Deridder, Louisiana. I paid my week like their web page promised, which was supposed to cover the first week. I signed up for monthly payments. During my order I had the opportunity to click if I would like any of their damage or liability waiver insurance for an extra monthly cost, I clicked no. After moving forward and paying my weekly fee of just $10 which stated would cover till 11/22/23 it brought me to sign my agreement. I read it throughly and signed. Next I set up my delivery date for 11/18/2023. I thought it was being delivered they took my money, no calls, Im good. Delivery day! As I am waiting on my delivery which was due to arrive at 1pm. At 11am I noticed a refund from rent a center. I was like that's odd. Nobody has called me. So I called rent a center spoke to the manager. He not only kept cutting me off. He told me that I did not sign my agreement which I did I had proof. Then he told me the $10 which is supposed to cover for a week isn't really true that I would need to pay first month payment upfront. I told him thats what I signed on the agreement it has me covered until 11/22/2023. He said well you signed up online right? I said yes, he said oh that's the problem the website isn't accurate. I said okay so your telling me rent a center is false advertising. He said not me its the webpage. I told him I will pay what my signed agreement said. He said well you also have to have the insurance waiver it's mandatory. I said okay what is it. He said we'll that's the problem. I feel highly disappointed. I feel pretty down and that he was being very misleading. At the very least someone should had called me and let me know what was going on with my agreement, that was made between rent a center and myself. They are very misleading and sound like scam artists. I will be contacting head quarters as well as bbb.
