- Personal references — typically 3-4 contacts with phone numbers
How It Works
- 1 Browse in store — choose from available furniture, appliances, electronics, and more
- 2 Apply — no traditional credit check at most stores; approval is based on income and residency
- 3 Get approved — many stores offer same-day approval and immediate access to your items

Typically included with rent-to-own agreements:
Free delivery and setup, service and maintenance for the life of the agreement, the option to return items at any time without penalty, and an early purchase option (EPO) to buy the item outright before the lease ends. Rent-to-own is not a loan or credit purchase. Specific terms vary by store.

Rent a center has been the bain of my existence for over 2 years! They are very unprofessional! They are beyond ghetto! They harass and bombard you with calls like they are the mob! Making threats and sending goons to the house! I paid off my bedroom set and they switched managers. The new manager worse than the old one! Called me and told me I "have to" pay 2 weeks in advance on a $40 a week payment for my washer! Mind you, I'm almost done with the payments, $580 was going to cash out! But I was talked to like a raggedy dog by the new manager, Theresa! I'll be damned if I give them another cent of my hard earned money! I will take their cash out money and spend it where it will be appreciated! I will be calling corporate as well because they are just ridiculous! Don't mess with "The Mob" Rent a center, this was the worse experience ever! I will sleep in a hollow log before I ever use them again! Don't do it!
The guys at local office are great but be aware of any special offers made. Because the district manager will claim that u asked for a payment extension on their no payment for 30 days or first month free deal. And if you were a previous customer their system makes ur payment at wrong date making u late continuing. And DM was very rude and basically telling me i was no good. Not happy been doing business with them for years. Just to be treated bad and told no one made a commitment.
Joel at the okmulgee store is a amazing employee he does everything he can to help and does his job with care
Well I'm not allowed to say much. But if you need furniture, for whatever room, a TV, lap top, bed, mattress, phone... whatever it is you need, you'd be far better off doing ANYTHING but rent to own from Rent A Center or any rental company for that matter. You'll end up paying 4X the original price and if that isn't bad enough the quality is sometimes questionable at best. Also, the very minute you're late on any payment their on the phone trying to reach you and then if you don't answer they'll call your references, first thing in the morning. Oh, and the TVs are left on continuously, at some stores over night as well. Today's TVs only have a certain number of watchable hours before they start to degrade or worse, fail. Not to mention it may have been used as a rental prior to your purchasing it. How many hours has that TV got on it that you wanna rent? You'll never know unless it's new and even then you still can't be sure. If they can't reach you in the phone they'll show up at your house even at 830am on a Saturday morning. Knocking on your door wanting their payment OR the merchandise back immediately. Doesn't matter what it is. They want and try very hard to make the prices sound affordable but they're really not at all affordable. And they actually don't care if you rent it until you purchase it. They would rather rent it anyway for as long as they can to whoever they can. That's where the money lies, in the merchandise on rent. These are just a fraction of the things you should expect to deal with when using basically any home furnishing rental company like Rent A Center. Aarron's, Stanleys, Conns whatever, they all work basically the same formula just different ingredients. It's all rent to own, with rent being the key word to remember. They'll trap you in an expensive, lengthy contract and make you pay by the week or by your pay day. On the surface it appears that its easier this way, to pay in small chunks rather than one monthly lump sum but it's not. Most people who shop at Rent A Center live pay check to pay check. For most people money is hard to come by no matter wether it's in small chunks or large ones. So, think carefully before making a payment or excepting free or payment matched weeks and signing that contract. The only thing you have to lose is money you don't have.
Staff was generally helpful but geez be late by a day and then there is someone at the door banging on the front door, all the windows and ringing the door bell. It's not the best idea when you are teleworking from home and you don't have anything from the store.
