What to Expect at This Store

Visiting a rent-to-own store is straightforward. Here is a general overview of what to bring and how the process typically works. Requirements may vary — contact Rent-A-Center directly to confirm.

What to Bring

  • Valid photo ID — driver's license, state ID, or passport
  • Proof of income — recent pay stub, bank statement, or benefits letter
  • Proof of residence — utility bill, lease agreement, or mail with your address
  • Personal references — typically 3-4 contacts with phone numbers

How It Works

  1. 1 Browse in store — choose from available furniture, appliances, electronics, and more
  2. 2 Apply — no traditional credit check at most stores; approval is based on income and residency
  3. 3 Get approved — many stores offer same-day approval and immediate access to your items
  4. 4 Delivery or pickup — most stores include free delivery, setup, and ongoing service/maintenance

Typically included with rent-to-own agreements:

Free delivery and setup, service and maintenance for the life of the agreement, the option to return items at any time without penalty, and an early purchase option (EPO) to buy the item outright before the lease ends. Rent-to-own is not a loan or credit purchase. Specific terms vary by store.

*****Edited to respond to Rent A Center's reply: As stated in the review, we attempted to call that 800 number you suggested twice. There was such a severe language barrier that we could not resolve our issue that way. Could a district manager please leave a number to contact or contact us to resolve this? We called Rent-A-Center in Newark on 11/9 November to start a short term rental of a recliner in advance of my shoulder surgery. It was easy to get ordered and delivered. We called before December 1 to schedule the pick up. They said the first available date was 12/5. Audrey spoke with my husband on 12/4 to firm up the time of pick up. She told him that it would be between 12 and 3, but we would be first on the list for pick up, as I had a scheduled 3pm follow-up appointment. When I called the store at 1:40pm, they said that it would be closer to 3, as they had a lot of deliveries. As I had to get to the appointment, we rescheduled to Monday, December 8. I called on 12/8, asking if we would be charged for another month. The person said the charge would go through but he would have to talk to his manager to refund the December charge. Today, I got an email that 12.99 was going to be charged tomorrow. I looked at our bank account and saw that we were actually charged for the rent on the recliner for 12/8 to 1/8, when the recliner was picked up on 12/8. We called the store tonight, and Joe explained that the insurance was set to be charged again, as for some reason that was still on our account. He was going to correct that. We asked about the December charge. He said that we would have to call an 800 number to get that refunded. We did, and when we gave the phone number that is connected to our account, the person couldn't find the account. I asked her to type it in again, but she insisted my husband verify the account. There was a severe language barrier, and we asked to speak with a supervisor. The rep said that there was no supervisor on duty. We could not continue with the language barrier, so we ended the call. I can 100% say that we will not be renting anything from them again.

I rent from rent a center in newark and I rented tires for my car, mattress n bed frame n living room set. I have never ever ran into a problem with anyone at the store. Had a problem one month with a payment due to had to pay for medicine n they helped me ..their furniture is not junk either. I rather use rent a center than Arron's..

Terrible costumer service. “Find business elsewhere” she said. I signed an agreement for a couch and a washer and dryer to be delivered today, had every excuse in the book on why the washer and dryer were delivered but not the couch. We resolved issues the day before and the same issues occurred on the same day it was supposed to be delivered. The name is AUDREY by the way with multiple complaints already. The 2 gentleman delivering the washer and dryer and supposed to be couch were very respectful and said they will try to deliver the couch later today. Respect to them for trying and not being disrespectful like Audrey was.

The manager refuses to speak with me and let his employees rent me a couch without giving me a contract in writing. I asked the day I went in, "I don't know how my cat's will react to this couch, if I get the insurance on this are claw marks covered if I pay for it?" She said "of course! No issues there!" So I went through with it. Of course, the cats frayed the corners. I ended up moving into a nicer apartment and the couch wouldn't fit through the hallway so I called to replace it. They refused as soon as they heard fraying. They wanted to come take pictures but didn't and now outright refuse to do anything with it but want me to pay it off. What's insurance for? Pay attention to the way they act. They are con artists. Your word will not stand against this store manager that hides from issues. Finally, if u absolutely NEED to go through them, get the contract in writing.

First we got a T.V through them. We went to set up the channels and the remote was not working. Then we realized that they gave us the wrong remote to the T.V. They finally gave us the right one after hounding them about it. Then we found the same exact T.V. at Walmart and it was cheaper too! I told them to come pick up the T.V. that we didn't want it anymore. When they came they kept asking why? I told them 3 times before they finally took it. Then I got my son's trundle bed through them. We put it all together and there is pieces missing. I told them about what part I was missing. Then they finally ordered it. It took 2 months. When I picked up the new part, we unwrapped it. And would you know it was the wrong part!! Now I have to wait for another 2 months to see if they can order the right part for it.! I told them I should not have to pay on a bed that is missing a part and should take some of the payments on it. They messed up so why should I pay for that mistake?? But they will call you and hound you if you are one day late! One time they called my boyfriend 10 times in one day. They are over priced and I won't deal with them again after I pay everything off!!!!!! A very unsatisfied customer! If you are going to run a business then run it right and the communication there sucks!!!
