What to Expect at This Store

Visiting a rent-to-own store is straightforward. Here is a general overview of what to bring and how the process typically works. Requirements may vary — contact Rent-A-Center directly to confirm.

What to Bring

  • Valid photo ID — driver's license, state ID, or passport
  • Proof of income — recent pay stub, bank statement, or benefits letter
  • Proof of residence — utility bill, lease agreement, or mail with your address
  • Personal references — typically 3-4 contacts with phone numbers

How It Works

  1. 1 Browse in store — choose from available furniture, appliances, electronics, and more
  2. 2 Apply — no traditional credit check at most stores; approval is based on income and residency
  3. 3 Get approved — many stores offer same-day approval and immediate access to your items
  4. 4 Delivery or pickup — most stores include free delivery, setup, and ongoing service/maintenance

Typically included with rent-to-own agreements:

Free delivery and setup, service and maintenance for the life of the agreement, the option to return items at any time without penalty, and an early purchase option (EPO) to buy the item outright before the lease ends. Rent-to-own is not a loan or credit purchase. Specific terms vary by store.

WARNING: THEY ARE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT I had rented from the location several times before, and a location in TN, prior to my horrible experience with Brendan and Petey. I am a student at Penn State Behrend, and I needed a laptop for a short amount of time. I explained this to Brendan over the phone, and he started arguing with me that they are "rent to own" and that you cannot rent for a short amount of time. As you can see from the screenshot presented, this is not true per Rent-a-Center's own website. Brendan proudly told me he had worked there six months and knew what he was talking about, and that I was ill-informed even though I had been a customer for many years. I informed him I would be complaining. I applied for a laptop online, and got approved. I tried calling the store about it several times, and got ignored. Finally, I got Brendan's boss, Petey, who also had a sour attitude. He scrutinized my rental history, and was apprehensive of the fact that I returned items, even though their policy states that you can. He also would not let me pick up the item even though I had already paid for it, and refused to rent to me. I ended up going to Aaron's (who I have also rented from and returned things to before), who gave me no problems, and delivered my laptop that day. I am currently typing this review on it. I do not know what is wrong with Brendan nor Petey, or why they are so adament that they know the policies of their company, when they obviously do not. I will be calling corporate Monday and reporting them, while requesting the recorded phone calls be reviewed to show they do not know policy and do not know how to talk to customers. I spoke with a friend about my experience, and they said they too had a bad experience with Petey. Erie is a small and poor town, and word travels fast. Many people rely on places like Rent-a-Center, and Petey and Brendan's poor attitudes will ensure more customers switch to Aaron's. I do not know what happened to the old management, but my friend and I both agree the store was better when Josh was the manager and both of us have switched to Aaron's.

-7/10 dont recommend!!!! At first they were really patient and kind. I was SO EXCITED to finally pay off new furniture!!! Well, i decided i needed to switch couches to leather as its easier to clean when you're disabled. #1 first thing they did wrong is rush the furniture in and out of my house and put a hole on the back of my double reclining loveseat and put scuffs on it. Whatever, paid the full amount every month, and im proud of it as its my first brand new furniture and its paid off!!!! They never fixed the couches like they said they would and didn't give me a discount!!!! Oh well, I have new furniture!!! Well, then I decided to rent to own an "on sale" PS5 and VR!!!!! Knowing im on a fixed income they started charging me $185 a month for 13 MONTHS!!!!! YES!!!! You read that right!!!! Zero games, zero box, zero instructions!!!! That would be $2,405 in total for it!!!! I NEED my money back since I was foolish at trusting them!!!! I returned the game system, but it was already too late because I got SO behind on bills I worked SO HARD to catch up to and now im behind AGAIN!!!! Go to Aaron's before you trust this rent a center!!!! Price gauging IS A CRIME especially when they told me theyre using it for their own gain from someone on a fixed income and fighting for his life and thats WHY I wanted this game system and instantly became back in debt for their gain and ignorance!!!!

Horrible customer service at the store. On Thursday I called the store. Store manager Martell does not know how to talk to people with respect and shows alot of attitude and little restraint. I ended a lease on Tuesday and he has authorized charges on my card daily since then. Thankfully, I blocked the merchant the day I ended the lease promptly following Tuesday's call. All the items in the leasing term were never FULLY FUFILLED on there end even though being told multiple times since the day they delivered it that there was a piece missing. If you want to use Rent A Center, go to the location over in the liberty Plaza. I cam bet they talk to their employees and customers WAY better and not try to steal your money.
